WILMINGTON, Del. – In a pastoral letter on “Celebrating the Year of St. Paul,” Bishop Michael A. Saltarelli of Wilmington has called on the faithful in his diocese to discern “how best to study, pray and celebrate the life, inspired writing, spirituality and missionary spirit of St. Paul.”

MADISON, Wis. – Two bills before the Wisconsin Legislature that would expand or remove the statute of limitations for child abuse cases “will kneecap or even eliminate” church ministries to the needy and punish innocent Catholics for years to come, Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan of Milwaukee told a state Senate committee Jan. 16.

During Lent, individuals 14 and older are required to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of Lent including Good Friday, according to Bishop W. Francis Malooly, western vicar and vicar general for the Archdiocese of Baltimore. The regulations for fasting apply to Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. The rule applies to individuals 18-60 and allows one full meal to maintain strength and two smaller meals which together do not equal the full meal. There is no eating of solid foods between the meals and all meals must be meatless.

Parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Baltimore will honor the dedicated service of religious sisters, brothers and priests Feb. 3, the World Day for Consecrated Life.

Sister Mary Ferdinand Tunis, R.S.M., celebrated 70 years as a nun and 88 years as a parishioner of St. Cecilia, Baltimore, on Dec. 23. “I can’t do too much with the parish but be their senior member,” she said with a chuckle.
