The Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools award is the highest honor bestowed upon schools by the Maryland State Department of Education. The Maryland State Blue Ribbon Schools award program was reinstated in 2025 to replace the U.S. Department of Education’s long-running national program, which was discontinued. The award recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools that fall in either or both of the two performance award categories: Exemplary High Performing or Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing. The Exemplary High Performing criteria includes at least a top 15% score in math and reading on Maryland State assessments.
All Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore receiving the 2026 National Blue Ribbon Schools award qualified as exemplary high performing based on their outstanding academic performance on national and state assessments.
Six Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore – Monsignor Slade Catholic School (Glen Burnie), Resurrection St. Paul School (Ellicott City), School of the Incarnation (Gambrills), St. Augustine School (Elkridge) St. Joseph School (Cockeysville), and St. Stephen School (Kingsville)—have been named 2026 Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools.
They are among 356 schools nationwide to receive this prestigious recognition and represent 12% of all non-public schools recognized in the 2024 cohort of National Blue Ribbon Schools.
