OAKLAND, Calif. – A free medical clinic for uninsured children and adults will open in October as part of the new Christ the Light Cathedral Center in downtown Oakland. The clinic is being sponsored by the Order of Malta, Western Association USA, and will offer no-cost care in a section of the cathedral’s office building.

HAGERSTOWN – Standing beneath a large painting of the crucifixion at St. Ann in Hagerstown, Archbishop Edwin F. O’Brien challenged Washington County parishioners to “embrace” the crosses that come into their lives.

Nicholas Sabo will graduate from high school this spring, but he’s done plenty of teaching as well as learning. The 21-year-old, who attends South River High School in Edgewater and is a parishioner of Holy Family, Davidsonville, has cerebral palsy.

Like others, hospitals are trying to lessen the impact they have on the environment. From reducing medical waste to composting food scraps to overhauling the entire laundry, hospital officials are trying to find greener ways to treat patients.

At the end of this month, Cokey Robertson, head basketball coach for St. Maria Goretti High School, Hagerstown, will turn 70 years old and will retire from the Gaels program – which he put on the map.
