Disappointed in lack of disappointment with new president

In the article “World issues top Vatican hopes for Obama,” (CR, Jan. 29) Archbishop Fisichella says “we’re a short step away from disappointment” after President Barack Obama’s removal of a ban on federal aid to programs that promote or perform abortions overseas. We’re not even disappointed yet? With respect to the pope’s mention about the war on terrorism, what about the almost 3,000 people killed on Sept. 11? In another article in the same issue, ”Pro-life leaders criticize Obama,” Thomas Melady, former ambassador to the Vatican, feels it was a sign of respect to Catholics to remove the ban on the day after the pro-life march. Please.
