SILVER SPRING, Md. – The Leadership Conference of Women Religious appointed Sister Jane Burke, a School Sister of Notre Dame, as its new executive director, effective in August.

Amanda Brown wasn’t planning to make a career out of working with inner-city youths. That was before she began volunteering with the Notre Dame Mission Volunteer Program/Notre Dame AmeriCorps, a public-private initiative that encourages volunteerism among young people.

The Leadership Conference of Women Religious appointed Sister Jane Burke, S.S.N.D., as its next executive director. Sister Jane served for eight years as the provincial leader of the School Sisters of Notre Dame’s Baltimore province, and most recently was the national manager for the Justice for Immigrants Campaign, sponsored by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

In my Walter Mitty life, I’m not turning two with Cal Ripken at Camden Yards, or playing the Emperor Concerto with the National Symphony; I’m not even writing the Great American Novel. No, when I imagine a different life it’s as an architect.

Spring really is “bursting out all over.” The death of the winter to the new life of spring is indeed a wonderful time to celebrate the death of Christ and now his new risen life in this Easter Season.

I read with interest Therese Borchard’s opinion piece on why young adults leave the Catholic church (CR, April 17). She disagreed with several explanations, did not offer one of her own but concluded that we should “… be ourselves and stop worrying if we win or lose. Then the right people will come.”
