Statement on the Removal of the Priestly Faculties of Father Carlos Osorio

The Archdiocese of Baltimore is announcing that it has removed the priestly faculties of Father Carlos Osorio, who is on a leave of absence effective immediately. Father Osorio is not permitted to minister in any capacity in the Archdiocese of Baltimore due to sexual activity involving adults that is inappropriate for a priest. He has been instructed not to present himself as a priest and not to solicit funds from parishioners.

The Knights of Columbus called on the nation’s Catholics to participate in a novena beginning June 7 to pray for national unity and an end to racism amid the unrest following the death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer.

Catholics are upset about a directive from China’s communist government asking priests to “preach on patriotism” as a condition for reopening liturgical services, suspended earlier this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
