Blazers blank Eagles 5-0 to net first victory of season

Lynn Taylor, head coach of the Notre Dame Preparatory, Towson, Blazers says that mental toughness is the key to one’s success in tennis, especially in the singles game. That theory was right on the money Sept. 18 when No. 1 singles player, senior Frances Hutton handily defeated her McDonogh School opponent, 6-4, 6-1 to contribute to the Blazers’ 5-0 win over the Eagles.

Five parishes in Anne Arundel plan for priest shortage

For a cluster of five parishes in northern Anne Arundel County, ironically, the future is now. The staffs of Church of the Crucifixion, Glen Burnie; Holy Trinity, Glen Burnie; St. Philip Neri, Linthicum Heights; Church of the Good Shepherd, Glen Burnie; and St. Bernadette, Severn, are in the final months of a lengthy planning process for a situation they thought would occur in 2009, when projections indicated three priests would be available for five parishes.

If I could save time in a capsule

Time is elusive. Humans are obsessed with it: we pass it, save it, waste it, wish it away, squander it, mark it, buy time, make time, kill time and run out of time. It’s all about time! Yet how do we mark and preserve time? One way is to create a time capsule to capture a family’s era. I decided to create our family’s time capsule after covering a story about St. Margaret, Bel Air, opening a 30-year-old time capsule in January 2006 and sealing a new one. As they showed me the contents, I imagined what items I would select to place inside of my own time capsule.
