They come with the weight of the caregiver role on their shoulders. Some take care of a parent with dementia. Others look after a spouse with physical disabilities. Some care for a loved one living in a facility.
Those urging the University of Notre Dame to rescind President Barack Obama’s invitation to speak at graduation have very short memories (CR, March 26). Then President George W. Bush spoke on the very same campus in 2001. He was ostensibly pro-life, but it is an undeniable fact that during his six years as chief executive of the state of Texas he presided over 152 executions, more than any other governor in the recent history of the United States. The Catholic Church is vehemently opposed to capital punishment, except in the gravest of circumstances.
The original April fool was the devil! He thought he had killed God, only to have Jesus rise from the dead three days later!
Several weeks ago, I wrote in this column about the calculated steps taken by President Barack Obama and his administration to dismantle laws aimed at protecting life. Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School and Children’s Center principal Lisa Shipley leaned back in her chair inside her small office and opened the back door.
As a new parent at Woodmont Academy, I could not be happier with our decision to enroll our child in their Pre-K to 3 program. From the first day of school, my husband and I were both filled with a sense of comfort and peace. We learned and saw firsthand that the teachers put the students’ needs before their own each and every day. They adore the kids and treat each one as an individual, embracing his or her strengths but also his or her weaknesses. They are hands-down the best teachers I have ever seen. They go above and beyond to ensure that each child maximizes his or her own potential, offering love, support, encouragement and, most of all, grace to every child.
VATICAN CITY – The Vatican has ordered an apostolic visitation of the institutions of the Legionaries of Christ following disclosures of sexual impropriety by the order’s late founder, Father Marcial Maciel Degollado.
SAO PAULO, Brazil – A wave of indignation has swept across Brazil’s Catholic community after a Vatican newspaper article criticized a Brazilian archbishop’s actions relating to the case of an abortion performed on a 9-year-old rape victim.
