Reynold Verret, president of Xavier University of Louisiana, announced July 31 that the university and its Institute for Black Catholic Studies will become the new hub for the advancement of sainthood causes of African-American Catholics.

Ideas have consequences, and for decades some very bad ideas have given aid and comfort to predators inside and outside the church.

Pope Francis has ratified the members elected by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to represent the U.S. at the Synod of Bishops Oct. 3-28. Pope Francis has ordered a revision of the Catechism of the Catholic Church to assert “the death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person.”
