A U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge Sept. 25 approved the reorganization plan of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, including a $210 million settlement for victim-survivor remuneration.

More than 770 participants endured steady rain in support of the fifth annual Little Sisters of the Poor 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen in Homeland Sept. 8. The event benefited St. Martin's Home in Catonsville. St. Ignatius Church in Hickory won the Parish Pride Award and Mount de Sales Academy received the Flying Nun Award for most registrants. The head of the German bishops conference formally apologized for sexual abuse in the church, saying it “has been denied, turned away from and covered up for far too long.”

In what is probably the least religious country in Europe, Pope Francis said he is surprised by how many people hold firm to their faith despite all the sexual abuse and financial scandals in the Catholic Church.
