The Archdiocese of Baltimore honored 63 of its top high school seniors at the 18th annual Distinctive Scholars Convocation at Archbishop Spalding High School in Severn April 27.

The Archdiocese of Baltimore announced April 30 that it is eliminating 30 positions at the Catholic Center, its administrative headquarters in downtown Baltimore. Five additional vacant positions will not be filled.

Father Richard Hilgartner, 41, a priest of the Archdiocese of Baltimore and associate director of the U.S. Bishops’ Secretariat for Divine Worship, has been tapped to become head of the secretariat in 2011.
Due to four scheduled back-to-back confirmations last weekend, I was unable to attend Archbishop Borders’ funeral. But I was more than present in spirit.
It appears that only two bishops were willing to take the Catholic Health Association to task for its support of the final Health Care Bill (CR, April 22). The USCCB is beginning to look feeble in representing the church’s social doctrine.
