In words set before us in today’s liturgy, let us beg the intercession of St. Matthew as we seek to deepen our faith and prepare ourselves for the New Evangelization: O God, who with untold mercy were pleased to choose as an Apostle Saint Matthew, the tax collector, grant that, sustained by his example and intercession, we may merit to hold firm in following you.

Barbara Smith of St. Mary’s Parish in Brunswick departed for Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Sept. 3 to begin teaching in one of the Salesian Sisters’ boarding high schools and live in community with the sisters for a year. She will have the option of extending for a second year.

The Sept. 13 disclosure that the preserved remains of over 2,200 aborted babies had been found at the rural Illinois home of the recently deceased Indiana abortionist Ulrich “George” Klopfer has sparked outrage and demands for immediate investigations by authorities.
