As we journey together through this sacred season of Lent, the Church gently calls us to prayer, fasting, and almsgiving — time-honored practices that draw our hearts closer to Christ.
As Catholics, we are reminded that the Fridays of Lent are days of required abstinence. On these days, all Catholics age 14 and older are asked to abstain from eating meat, uniting this small sacrifice with the saving sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our first Friday of Lent is a beautiful opportunity to begin this practice with intention and devotion.
Abstinence is not merely a rule to follow, but an invitation — a quiet act of love offered in remembrance of the Passion of Christ. Each Friday, we recall that it was on a Friday that our Savior laid down His life for us. In giving up something simple, we make space for grace. In embracing a small sacrifice, we open our hearts more fully to God.
As the Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us, the seasons of penance are meant to prepare us for the joy of Easter. May this first Friday of Lent renew in us a spirit of humility, gratitude, and deeper conversion.
Let us walk this Lenten path together — supporting one another, praying for one another, and encouraging one another in faith.
May the Lord bless you and keep you throughout this holy season. ✝️
