Sister Patricia Ryan, S.S.N.D., dies

A funeral Mass for School Sister of Notre Dame Sister Patricia Ryan was offered July 31 at the Villa Notre Dame chapel in Wilton, Conn. A longtime educator in Maryland, Sister Patricia died July 28. She was 90.
A Massachusetts native, Sister Patricia entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1946, following two of her sisters. She received the religious name Sister Mary John Paul, but later returned to her baptismal name. She earned degrees from Fordham University in New York City and Boston College, and taught in Florida, Maryland, New Jersey and New York.
In the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Sister Patricia taught at St. Maria Goretti High School in Hagerstown from 1956 to 1969, returning as principal from 1970 to 1975. She then spent 25 years at Notre Dame Preparatory School in Towson, teaching from 1975 to 1980, and then serving as its treasurer and business manager from 1980 to 2000. She then retired, joining her biological sisters at their community’s motherhouse in Wilton, where she coordinated medical records until 2009.
