Sister Patricia McCarron, S.S.N.D., Ph.D., named Influential Marylander
Honoree is incoming superintendent of Archdiocese of Baltimore schools
(Baltimore, MD) – The Daily Record has named Sister Patricia McCarron, S.S.N.D., Ph.D., the incoming superintendent of the Archdiocese of Baltimore Catholic schools, among its 2025 Influential Marylanders.
Sister Patricia, a School Sister of Notre Dame for 35 years who has served as the longtime head of school for Notre Dame Preparatory School in Towson, was selected among a class of 56 dynamic leaders by The Daily Record’s editors for her leadership and significant contributions to education. Other honorees were named for their distinguished roles in business, civic leadership, finance, health care, law, philanthropy, technology and other career fields.
In her new role, Sister Patricia oversees 40 Catholic schools that enroll nearly 25,000 students. During her 20-year tenure leading Notre Dame Prep, the school rose to record enrollment with an increasingly diverse student body and thrived financially, and academically with the school twice earning the coveted National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award during her tenure. Additionally, she led major enhancements and expansions of campus facilities to better serve and support the student body.
“Sister Patricia is an indefatigable leader whose vision, compassion and Christ-centered approach to education continues to inspire students and school communities,” said Gregory A. Farno, chancellor of education for the Archdiocese of Baltimore. “She is indeed an ‘Influential Marylander,’ as her impact to Catholic education is measured by the ways she guides young people as they grow closer to Jesus Christ and reach their own God-given potential.”
Sister Patricia holds a doctorate in educational administration and policy from The Catholic University of America. She first joined Notre Dame Prep as a math teacher in 1984 before serving as assistant principal at the former Seton Keough High School and rising to associate dean of academic affairs at Notre Dame of Maryland University. Her service on numerous committees, boards and advisory groups reflects her broad commitment to the Catholic community and the state of Maryland as a whole.
Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore span much of the state, including Baltimore City and Allegany, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Frederick, Harford, Howard and Washington counties. There are 40 elementary and middle schools, 34 of which are Archdiocesan schools and six are independent schools; and 18 high schools, six Archdiocesan and 12 independent.
“The 2025 Influential Marylanders are dynamic leaders who are at the pinnacle of their careers, working to improve our lives, our state and our future. They are visionary, respected and actively engaged in the community,” said Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, managing director of BridgeTower Media/The Daily Record. “Influential Marylanders mentor other leaders and spark innovation and progress. We at The Daily Record are pleased to honor these outstanding members of the community.”
Sister Patricia will join her fellow honorees at an awards celebration in September. A special magazine by The Daily Record will publish profiles of the winners as part of the publication’s Sept. 19 issue.
