Sister Marian Hagner, D.C., dies

A funeral Mass for Baltimore native Sister Marian Hagner, a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, was offered Sept. 13 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Emmitsburg. Sister Marian died Sept. 8 at Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg. She was 91 and a sister for 70 years.
Sister Marian graduated from Seton High School. After joining the Daughters of Charity, she ministered in child care and education in Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia, and parish ministry in North Carolina. In the Archdiocese of Baltimore, she taught at St. Joseph High School in Emmitsburg from 1967 to 1970, and was a guidance counselor at St. Dominic School in Baltimore from 1989 to 1992. She ministered at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore from 1998 to 2005, both in the pastoral care department and as a receptionist, before retiring to Villa St. Michael.
Sister Marian held several leadership roles in her religious community in Emmitsburg and Baltimore. She earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg and a master’s degree from Villanova University in Villanova, Pa.
