Sister Eileen McCarthy, S.S.N.D.

A funeral Mass for School Sister of Notre Dame Eileen McCarthy was offered July 29 at the chapel at Villa Notre Dame in Wilton, Conn. Sister Eileen died July 23. She was 80.
A native of Boston, Sister Eileen entered the School Sisters in 1953. Her first assignment as an educator was at St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Hampden from 1953 to 1958.
Sister Eileen also served at schools in South Carolina, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut. In addition, she taught abroad in Hungary and Japan and tutored students at Quincy College in Quincy, Mass. from 1994 to 2002.  
At the time of her death, Sister Eileen, a swimmer, was in Cleveland participating in the National Senior Games. She earned a bachelor’s in education from Providence College in Providence, R.I. and a master’s in education reading from the University of Rhode Island.
