Sister Eileen Carney, O.S.U., dies

A funeral Mass for Ursuline Sister Eileen Carney will be offered June 8 at the Ursuline Motherhouse chapel in Louisville, Ky. Sister Eileen died June 4. She was 81 and had been a sister for more than six decades.
A native of Cumberland, Sister Eileen was a 1946 graduate of the former St. Mary High School in Cumberland. She entered the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville in 1951 and her ministry primarily included education and pastoral care.
Sister Eileen served as assistant principal of Bishop Walsh School in Cumberland; pastoral associate at St. Peter the Apostle in Oakland and St. Patrick in Mount Savage, now part of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish; and chaplain at the former Sacred Heart Hospital and Western Maryland Health System in Cumberland.
Sister Eileen also served in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Nebraska and New Mexico. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Ursuline College in Louisville, Ky., and a master’s degree in history from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.
