Prayers for Peace in Iraq
“Violence generates more violence; dialogue is the only path to peace.”
Pope Francis, 2014
Archbishop Lori invites the Catholic community and all people of good will to respond to the Holy Father’s call for peace by participating in a day of prayer and fasting on August 23rd and an inter-religious and ecumenical prayer service on Sunday, August 24th at the Baltimore Basilica.
Additionally, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has asked U.S. bishops to invite the people of their dioceses to pray for peace in Iraq during Masses on Sunday, August 17th.
How can you help?

Prayer for those Persecuted in Iraq
O God of all the Nations,
the One God who is and was and always will be,
who in your providence willed that your Church be united to the suffering of your Son,
look with mercy on your servants in Iraq
who are persecuted for their faith in you.
Grant them perseverance and courage to be worthy imitators of Christ.
Bring your wisdom upon leaders of nations to work for peace among all peoples.
May your Spirit open conversion for those who contradict your will that we live in harmony.
And in all things may we be united in truth and freedom to seek your will in our lives.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Our Lady, Queen of Peace,
Pray for us.
