Ordained: May 29, 1965.

Edwin Cardinal O’Brien was appointed the 15th Archbishop of Baltimore on July 12, 2007 by Pope Benedict XVI and was installed on October 1, 2007 in ceremonies at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen.

On August 29, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI named then Archbishop O'Brien Grand Master of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Baltimore. , pending the installation of his successor. On January 6, 2012, the Holy Father named Archbishop O’Brien to the College of Cardinals. He will continue serving as Apostolic Administrator until the installation of his successor, William E. Lori, May 16, 2012.
