Three men to be ordained Jesuit priests

Three men will be ordained Jesuit priests by Cardinal William H. Keeler on June 9. Kurt Denk, Ralph Rivera and Ignatius Sasmita will be ordained at the Alumni Memorial Chapel of Loyola College in Maryland, Baltimore.

Mr. Denk, a native of Philadelphia, Pa., entered the Society of Jesus in 1996. After earning his master’s degree in philosophy in 2001, he taught philosophy at Loyola college and worked there as a residence hall chaplain. He also served on the staff of the college’s Center for Community Service and Justice, coordinating a service-learning program to Mexico. He will serve as an associate chaplain at San Quentin State Prison.

Mr. Rivera, a native New Yorker, entered the Society of Jesus in 1998. He will work as a parish priest in the Jesuit church of La Immaculada Concepción in Oaxaca, Mexico after his ordination.

Mr. Sasmita, born in Indonesia, moved to the United States in 1985 and entered the Society of Jesus in 1996. Following his ordination he will be assigned to a pastoral ministry in Oceanside, New York.
