St. Joseph Medical Center names new CEO

St. Joseph Medical Center has a new president-CEO.

The Towson hospital announced Aug. 12 that Charles W. Neumann will assume the post Aug. 23, succeeding Jeffrey K. Norman.

Neumann has more than 30 years of health care and management experience, according to a St. Joseph news release. For five years, he served as senior vice president, operations for Bon Secours Health System, Inc. in Marriottsville, where he coordinated an acquisition and led operations for Bon Secours local health systems in Florida, Kentucky and Maryland.

“The board immediately recognized Chuck’s passion for quality and his commitment to work with the medical community,” said Edward J. Gilliss, chairman of the medical center’s board of directors. “The transition in leadership will be seamless.

“The board thanks Jeff Norman for his good work and service to St. Joseph Medical Center. Over the past two years, we’ve built a strong base for Chuck to lead our medical staff, employees and board forward with a keen focus on delivering quality services to our patients.”

Most recently, Neumann served as a senior operations executive in the FTI Healthcare Group based in Boston. In his role, he provided a number of health systems with strategy assessments and development, acquisitions, business integration and operations enhancement.

“I know St. Joseph Medical Center and I admire its mission, its outstanding physicians and its commitment to the community for quality care and outstanding clinical programs,” Neumann said. “Healthcare in the United States is in transition and I look forward to developing and implementing strategies and operational improvements that assist St. Joseph Medical Center in achieving its full potential.”

Neumann received his master’s degree in public health administration from the University of Michigan and his bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University. He and his wife, Maureen Bisognano, have three adult children.

“Chuck understands what St. Joseph Medical Center has accomplished over the past two years. More importantly, he understands that the future will be built on a strong relationship with the medical staff and St. Joseph’s unwavering commitment to quality care,” said Beth O’Brien, senior vice president and group executive officer of Catholic Health Initiatives. “Chuck will be a great partner for the board and leader for the medical center.”

Vivienne Stearns-Elliott, a St. Joseph spokesperson, said Neumann was unavailable for comment.
