St. Brigid celebrates 155th

St. Brigid, Canton, will mark its 155th anniversary with a Homecoming Celebration Jan. 31.

A 4 p.m. Mass will be followed by a reception from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the parish hall.

The church’s folk group, PTL, and a dee-jay will provide entertainment, and photos of activities in the church over the past year will flash on a video screen.

“We’re thanking all the volunteers who worked through the (past) year and giving them an opportunity to volunteer again,” said Bette Brocato, administrative pastoral associate.

St. Brigid began in 1854 as a mission from St. Patrick, Fells Point.

In its early years, St. Brigid served Irish immigrants, and its first pastor was Father James Gibbons. He would later become James Cardinal Gibbons.
