Spanish-language Bible course offered to Catholic inmates

MILWAUKEE – Dismas Ministry, a Milwaukee-based national outreach program for Catholic inmates, has begun distributing a Spanish-language Bible-study correspondence course for prisoners.

The course is called “Dios con Nosotros” and is the Spanish version of “God With Us,” a Bible study course especially designed for prisoners.

“It is truly a unique resource that has been long overdue for Spanish-speaking Catholic inmates,” said Ron Zeilinger, Dismas executive director.

The correspondence course will be handled by a team of Dismas volunteers from Cristo Rey, a Hispanic parish in Racine, Wis., that is part of the Milwaukee Archdiocese.

The aim of the course is to deepen knowledge about the history, background and content of the Bible, he said.

Dismas started in 2000 and currently has programs for Catholic inmates in 29 states.

“We chose Dismas as our namesake and patron because this is the name tradition has given to the repentant criminal crucified with Jesus,” said Zeilinger.
