Sister Joan Griffin, OSF, dies

A funeral Mass for Sister of St. Francis of Philadelphia Joan Griffin will be offered Jan. 18 at Assisi House in Aston, Pa. Sister Joan died Jan. 13. She was 86.

Born in County Limerick, Ireland, Sister Joan entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia in 1944.

Her early teaching assignments were in Baltimore at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Middle River from 1946 to 1952 and Immaculate Conception School in Towson from 1954 to 1957.

She also taught or was an administrator in schools in Delaware, Washington state, Oregon, Pennsylvania and California, with 28 years in the Diocese of San Bernardino. She moved to Assisi House in 2011.
