Sister Dorothy Marie Thomas, O.S.F.

A funeral Mass was offered for Sister Dorothy Marie Thomas, O.S.F., at Assisi House in Aston, Pa., on Feb. 13. Sister Dorothy Marie, formerly Sister Marie Gonzaga, died on Feb. 9. She was 89.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, and taught in Baltimore; Wilmington, Del.; Bethesda; and Oklahoma.

She taught at St. Stephen School, Bradshaw, from 1941-1942; St. Paul School, 1956-1959; St. Peter Claver School, 1959-1965; St. Clement Mary Hofbauer School, Rosedale, 1967-1969; St. Elizabeth School, 1973-1977; and Immaculate Conception School, Towson, from 1977-1979.

A gifted pianist, she gave music lessons in many of the schools where she taught.

From 1979-1980 she ministered at St. Joseph Medical Center, Towson. She served as coordinator of health care at St. Joseph, Fullerton, from 1988-2001. From 2001 to 2002 she lived at St. Anthony Convent, where she did volunteer work until she moved to Assisi House in 2002.
