Restrain anti-union rhetoric

George Weigel is (CR, March 24) brings up the canard that “Tens of thousands of inner city children are being denied a quality education today because of the intransigence of the teachers unions.” I favor voucher programs, but am against using the inability of school systems to educate according to an unattainable standard as the primary reason to support vouchers. Support vouchers because you prefer the right of parents to more easily chose their own schools, not for the specious reason Weigel used.

Rather than disparage the position of the working man, Weigel would be better off to advocate the financial, investor and upper-management community to more evenly share the wealth. I believe that is more in covenant with Pope Leo XIII and “some Catholic quarters.”
