Long before it was common to speak of lay ministry or evangelization, St. Josemaria was encouraging members of the laity to share with others the joy of becoming God’s children and the peace and joy of holiness – He was urging them to evangelize the lukewarm and the unaffiliated in ways that are down-to-earth and practical.

On this Trinity Sunday, let us resolve, as God’s Holy people, to manifest in our lives “the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit”

Before this tabernacle, you will adore the Lord reserved in the Blessed Sacrament.

When we worthily take part in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the Holy Spirit is poured out upon us for the forgiveness of our sins, and we are reconciled with God and with the Church and even with our enemies.

Once this beautiful vision of hope takes root in our lives, then we will no longer be able to be quiet, complacent Christians. Rather, we will want to participate in the great commission Christ gave his Apostles: “God, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit…”

It is a joy and a pleasure to celebrate Solemn Vespers with all of you this evening. Please be assured of my prayers for you, the parishioners of St. Alphonsus.

My prayer for you is that you will actively, lovingly, and passionately cling to the Christ who is Lord of all because he is the servant of all, and that your greatness will be in that self-giving love that flows from his heart into yours.
