St. Mary Catholic School in Hagerstown announced it has received a grant from the Marion I. and Henry J. Knott Foundation in the amount of $60,000. The grant will be used to expand, update and renovate the elementary and middle school science laboratory, according to the school.

Yesterday, I strayed from the Archdiocese of Baltimore group in the afternoon and evening and turned up these images via video. It includes the Cathedral, crowds, protests and even dancing. More later today. Pope Benedict XVI arrives today and I can only hope to capture some images.

Regarding “Historic St. Michael Church holds final Masses July 31” (CR, Aug. 4): my mother, Catherine Doemling, attended St. Michael’s School at Lombard and Wolfe Streets in the late 1890s and early 1900s. German was taught there, in addition to English.
