What is it that has brought us together this afternoon, crowded as we are into this great cathedral? We come from different parishes, speak different languages, hail from various countries, represent differing cultures, engage in different occupations, find ourselves in many different situations. What is it that has brought us together? What do we share in common?

It is a pleasure to return to St. Michael Parish here in Overlea and to thank Father Hector for his dedicated, energetic, and faithful leadership of St. Michael’s Parish as well as St. Clement Mary Hoffbauer, and Annunciation. Let’s express our deepest thanks to your pastor, Father Hector!

After Jesus cured the leper, he instructed him to show himself to the priests, who, in turn, would offer a lamb as a sacrifice of thanksgiving for his healing.

In Catholic elementary school, our teachers often told us about modern-day saints, such as St. Francis Cabrini, an Italian immigrant nun who opened a string of hospitals serving the poor all around the United States.

It is a joy to welcome all of you here to the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen. The Cathedral is a special Church for everyone in our Archdiocese, the Cathedral is where you find the Bishops chair, “the cathedra”, the place from which I lead the liturgy and teach the faith.

It’s a joy to be here at Mount 2000 for this closing Mass. I hope you’ve had a great experience here at the Mount. I know that the seminarians have put in a lot of hard work for this weekend but I also know how happy they are to share with you the excitement and the joy of knowing and following Christ.
