Families exploring adoption can find information and guidance at two upcoming events.

The old saying, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” is wrong. I’m learning all the time! Allow me to share two new insights about prayer.

Applications are being accepted until Nov. 7 for the 2008-2009 seventh class of the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Fellows Program, a leadership development program for nonprofit executive directors in Maryland. The sixth group of Weinberg Fellows will graduate in October 2008.

Archbishop Pietro Sambi, Pope Benedict XVI’s representative to the United States, will install Bishop W. Francis Malooly, western vicar, as the ninth bishop of the Diocese of Wilmington during a special Sept. 8 Mass at St. Elizabeth Church in Wilmington. The liturgy will begin at 2 p.m.

St. Andrew by the Bay, Annapolis, will host seminars focusing on “Spirituality for the 21st century: Finding peace and joy in a crazy world.”

The annual Peter’s Pence collection, which enables Pope Benedict XVI to respond with emergency financial assistance to those in need throughout the world, will take place Sept. 6-7 in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. The money helps those who suffer as a result of war, oppression and natural disasters, according to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Web site.

Scaria Nirappel, father of Father James Nirappel, died Aug. 20 in Kerala, India. He was 76 years old.
