Moral fabric in tatters before 9/11

Scott Appleby, director of the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame, told Catholic News Service that the “fraying of the moral fabric of our nation” comes to his mind as one of the more significant costs of 9/11 (CatholicReview.org, Aug 21).

The moral fabric as well as the Catholic faith of our nation was in shreds long before 9/11 – a condition that might well be attributed in part to those who swam around in intellectual freedom without the life vest of church doctrine.
