Grateful for archbishop column on immigration

The Archdiocesan Immigration Coalition has been in existence for about two years. We meet monthly at St. Gabriel Church in Woodlawn. We are about 20 people from across the archdiocese, plus representatives from CASA de Maryland and the Episcopal Church. We are writing to thank Archbishop O’Brien for his column (CR, May 6), “Embrace Less Hard-hearted Approach to Immigration.” We know from all of our work that a move in this nation toward comprehensive immigration reform is a necessary step. We also know it is a complicated and emotional issue. We thank the archbishop for stepping out and speaking up on behalf of many families and individuals caught in our broken immigration system. It is nice to know that the Archdiocese of Baltimore, the Premier See, and a city of many immigrant communities has a leader that is not afraid to speak out.Thank you, Archbishop O’Brien.

Father Muth is the coordinator of the Archdiocesan Immigration Coalition and pastor of St. Matthew, Northwood.
