The Board of Trustees of the Maryland Independent College and University Association elected Jesuit Father Brian F. Linnane, Loyola University Maryland president, as chair of the board effective July 1.
Elected unanimously by MICUA Board of Trustees, which includes the presidents of 16 private colleges and universities in Maryland, Father Linnane will lead the organization in implementing its strategic objectives.
Thomas Powell, president of Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, was elected vice president.
MICUA is a member-driven organization devoted to serving the interests of independent higher education and supporting the work of campus leaders throughout the state. Established in 1971, the association provides services to foster cooperative efforts among its member institutions and all segments of higher education.
Father Linnane, who became Loyola’s 24th president in 2005, has been a strong proponent of faith and justice at the school.
