Guided by her faith and passion for life, The Catholic High School of Baltimore senior Suzanne Remeikis has succeeded both inside and outside of the classroom.
Suzanne, who is known for her dependability, dedication and personal integrity, was honored at graduation with the school’s Franciscan Award. Presented to a student who embodies leadership, character and a commitment to service, the award was most fitting for Suzanne.
As a student leader, she was active in many organizations including student council, the freshman retreat team and the Spanish Honor Society. She served as secretary of the National Honor Society and graduated third in her class.
“Suzanne made a very positive difference in our school community,” said Dr. Barbara Nazelrod, president of Catholic High. “She is a role model for our students, and she truly exemplifies the qualities of a Catholic High graduate. We will sincerely miss her.”
When asked about her favorite activity, Suzanne responded with little hesitation.
“I really enjoyed being a Catholic High Ambassador,” she said. “It was rewarding to promote the school that I truly loved. Being able to tell others about how much I loved going to school there was very fulfilling. I hope someone who attends TCHS in the future will enjoy their years there as much as I did.”
As an ambassador, Suzanne willingly volunteered during Catholic High open houses and on Freshman Welcome Day. The Ambassador program is designed to help students learn and grow along with their peers, and Suzanne set an example of what it meant to not only be a good student, but a good person as well. Through each of her four years, Suzanne was the recipient of the coveted “Student of the Month” award for outstanding academics, leadership and service.
What’s next for this energetic individual?
Suzanne, the daughter of Christine and Ronald Remeikis, will remain in Baltimore and attend Goucher College. She’ll pursue an elementary education degree and prepare for a teaching career. Goucher impressed Suzanne during her college search for many reasons.
“I immediately sensed a strong community at Goucher and was excited by how personal it felt,” she said. “It reminded me in many ways of Catholic High.”
Family is a top priority for Suzanne, so staying close will allow her to remain active as a parishioner of Our Lady of Hope, Dundalk. She’ll also keep her close relationship with her younger brother, Michael, who is about to finish sixth-grade at Our Lady of Hope. Suzanne enjoys carving out time for traveling, biking and scrapbooking. She also serves as a waitress at Dock of The Bay, Miller’s Island.
She has had significant experience with time management, a skill she’ll call upon over and over again as a teacher. While her high school memories will always remain with her, Suzanne Remeikis, grounded in faith and full of zest, embarks on a new chapter with endless possibilities.
