Building for peace is focus of Social Ministry Convocation

“Building for peace in a violent world” is the theme of the 29th annual Social Ministry Convocation March 1 at The Seton Keough High School, 1201 Caton Ave., in Baltimore. Registration for the event, which will be held from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m., is $10. Lunch is provided for those who pre-register.

Father John R. Donahue, S.J., a distinguished Bible scholar, author and homilist, will serve as the keynote speaker. Christine Tucker, Catholic Relief Services’ U.S. regional director for the Mid-Atlantic, will address the Spanish-speaking attendees. Workshops will begin at 11 a.m. and will include topics such as: engaging parishioners in social ministry; justice for immigrants and the scourge of human trafficking; youth and the culture of violence; and being faithful citizens.

In addition, the social ministry fair will exhibit the work of parishes and social justice organizations.

At 1:30 p.m., a panel discussion will be held offering practical parish tips.

A variety of awards recognizing individuals who are dedicated to social justice issues will be presented from 2:30 – 3 p.m.
