Archdiocese of Baltimore Names New Leaders in Education

Interim Superintendent of Catholic Schools Dr. Barbara Edmondson has announced the appointment of three key administrators to the Department of Catholic Schools. The changes in school administration address recommendations outlined in the Strategic Plan for Catholic Schools released in June 2010 by the Blue Ribbon Committee on Catholic schools, following its 16-month study of Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

Mrs. Margaret Dammeyer has been named Associate Superintendent, Curriculum and Professional Development. Mrs. Dammeyer was previously the Principal at St. Mary’s Elementary School in Annapolis. “I have a very strong belief in Catholic education,” the Rockville native said. “I’m a product of Catholic education and have four children who have gone through Catholic school. It’s not just my career. It’s my heart and what I love.”

Dr. Camille Brown of the Diocese of Rhode Island has been named Associate Superintendent, School Leadership and Community Programs and will join the Archdiocese on January 3. Dr. Brown considers re-energizing Catholic schools “a spiritual responsibility because my vocation as a Catholic educator is about building up the church, and one very important way to build up our church is evangelization through our schools.”

Mr. Matt Russell, who comes from the Archdiocese of Washington, has been named Director of the Archdiocese’s tuition, scholarships and secondary programs. Mr. Russell said the current economic climate has made financial aid and scholarship need “more poignant. People need help.” He will be helping the Archdiocese build a tuition assistance and tuition management program.

“I am truly looking forward to working with this wonderful team of professionals,” said Dr. Edmondson. “I am confident that the experience that each brings to the Department of Catholic Schools will provide great support for our principals and teachers and will ultimately enrich the lives of our students.”

The Archdiocese of Baltimore’s Catholic schools provide an academically excellent, Christ-centered education that empowers students to reach their full potential. For more information about our schools, please call 1-800-5-Catholic or visit www.archbalt.org
