Archdiocese denies request from St. Thomas More

The Archdiocese of Baltimore has announced that the request by officials of St. Thomas More Academy, a private school in the Frederick area, for recognition as a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, has been denied based on the school’s refusal to implement the “Catechesis for Human Sexuality,” a family life program that focuses on healthy relationships and boundaries for children.

The program is taught as part of the Religion curriculum in both schools and Religious Education classes in the Archdiocese and uses two resources, a student textbook and a manual for parents. The series has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church by the United States Bishops’ Committee on the Catechism.

The school has been informed that if it agrees to this requirement in the future, the Archdiocese will gladly re-consider its request for recognition.
