Almost all events submitted – if they are sponsored by a Catholic parish, school or other organization in the Archdiocese of Baltimore – will be featured in the online calendar.
A human monitor will approve submissions for posting.
Events submitted by the first of the month prior to the month of the event may be considered for the print edition of Catholic Review magazine (e.g., by Jan. 1 for publication in the February magazine). So that all entities in the archdiocese have a fair opportunity to be listed in the limited space in the print publication, entities will be limited to no more than two in each calendar month print edition. If more than two have been submitted, Catholic Review Media staff will decide which items to publish, at their discretion.

“There are meals you enjoy.
And then there are meals you remember.
Long before farm-to-table became a trend, St. Mary of the Assumption was already living it.
More than 86 years ago, local farmers brought chickens from their own farms to the parish, where they were prepared by hand and served fresh to the community. Our earliest printed program dates back to 1939, but the tradition began even earlier. What started as a simple church supper quietly became one of Harford County’s most beloved annual traditions.
Over the decades, the Chicken Dinner has become much more than a meal. Families wandered through craft booths, watched jousting tournaments, visited with neighbors, and lingered long after the last bite. Children who once came holding their parents’ hands now return with their own families, eager to share the experience they grew up with. Every September, familiar faces make the trip from Baltimore, York County, Virginia, and beyond, proving that some traditions are simply worth the drive.
Perhaps that’s because this isn’t just dinner.
It’s the crispy, golden fried chicken. The sweet corn, picked fresh from local fields and shucked by hand. The family recipes. The conversations that stretch across generations. It’s seeing someone you haven’t seen in years. It’s introducing your children to a place that has been part of your family’s story for decades.
It’s a reminder that some of life’s best moments happen around a table.
In a world where almost everything changes, it’s comforting to know that some things remain wonderfully the same.
This year, that tradition continues on Saturday, September 12, from Noon to 5:00 p.m. The tables will be full once again. The chicken will be hot. Old friends will reunite, new memories will be made, and another generation will discover why this meal has become a cherished part of so many family stories.
The St. Mary’s Fall Fried Chicken Dinner isn’t simply an event on the calendar. It’s a tradition woven into the history of our community—a place where memories are made, stories are shared, and new traditions begin.
Some places feed your appetite.
The best ones feed your soul.
And that’s why, year after year, people keep coming back.
Maybe this September 12, you’ll discover why.
