Almost all events submitted – if they are sponsored by a Catholic parish, school or other organization in the Archdiocese of Baltimore – will be featured in the online calendar.

A human monitor will approve submissions for posting.

Events submitted by the first of the month prior to the month of the event may be considered for the print edition of Catholic Review magazine (e.g., by Jan. 1 for publication in the February magazine). So that all entities in the archdiocese have a fair opportunity to be listed in the limited space in the print publication, entities will be limited to no more than two in each calendar month print edition. If more than two have been submitted, Catholic Review Media staff will decide which items to publish, at their discretion.

Sports, Snacks and the Spirit of a Champion

St. John the Evangelist School Athletic Association in Severna Park, Maryland, is excited to for an evening of fellowship, where we will workshop how to harness the Spirit of a Champion as it relates to coaching in youth sports, with special guest speaker, Mark Viviano. Join us Nov. 4, 6:30 – 8:30p.m. in the school auditorium. Saint John athletics follows the Play Like a Champion model of coaching in which the goodness of sports is sought after. In this model, coaches can augment the x’s and o’s aspects of coaching by incorporating a strategy to help athletes strive to be a champion through goal setting, responsibility, and ownership. A focus on personal mastery leading to team contribution lends itself to a great season for each player and the team as a unit and helps us point the goodness and glory of sports on God, from whom this most special gift of sports was given.

About Play Like a Champion

Play Like a Champion Today is an independent 501(c)(3) dedicated to providing leadership in a worldwide effort to change the culture of youth sports through education and consultancy. Since 2006, Play Like a Champion has served over 160,000 coaches and parents through a network of 280+ partners across the United States and Canada. Play Like a Champion moves beyond the X’s and O’s of coaching to address the core elements of effective coaching: 1) motivation, 2) team-building, 3) leadership. Scientifically-based and ethically-directed, Play Like a Champion designs its educational programs to promote children’s physical, social, emotional and moral development to last a lifetime.

Play Like a Champion Today’s Educational Series believes that the quality of preparation for our children’s educators reflects our respect for and care of our children.  We have put our children’s physical, emotional and mental well-being in the hands of far too many well-meaning, but ill-informed coaches; and our children are paying the consequences. Overuse injuries, burnout, and abuse are far too common in youth and high school sports. Investing in quality coach education is not only prudent, but morally responsible.

Play Like a Champion advocates youth sports as a safety net for children from distressed families, schools, and neighborhoods. All children deserve an opportunity to play, to be physically active, to have caring adult mentors, and to be a part of team.
