Statement of Archbishop Lori on Election of Pope

In this Premier See of Baltimore, we rejoice in the news of the election of our new Shepherd, Pope Francis, formerly Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Buenos Aires. I look forward to celebrating Mass in communion with the new Holy Father and with Catholics throughout the Archdiocese and the world at a Mass of Thanksgiving this Sunday, March 17, at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen at 11 a.m.

Please join me in praying for our new Holy Father, Pope Francis and for our Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church throughout the world, that it may continue to serve God and the common good through the Christ-like works inspired by our Catholic faith.

Just as the crowds in St. Peter’s Square did today, may all the people of our Archdiocese share with our new Holy Father our whole-hearted love, support and loyalty.
