Sister Helen Marie Lutz, O.S.U., dies

A funeral Mass for Ursuline Sister Helen Marie Lutz was offered March 25 at the Ursuline Motherhouse in Louisville, Ky. Sister Helen died March 19 in Louisville at age 87.
A native of Canton, Miss., she entered the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville in 1952. Sister Helen taught Spanish at the former St. Mary High School in Cumberland in 1958-59, and also taught and ministered in Kentucky, Mississippi, Nebraska, Pennsylvania and South Carolina.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from Ursuline College in Louisville, and a master’s degree in modern and classical languages from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend., Ind. In her later years she was involved in literacy program assistance and volunteer services for the sick and the elderly. From 1995-2005 Sister Helen was a resident of the Ursuline Motherhouse, where she served as a receptionist and as a tutor.
