Archbishop Lori condemns violence in Buffalo

For Immediate Release
May 17, 2022

Archbishop of Baltimore William E. Lori issued the following statement condemning the May 14 mass shooting in Buffalo, New York:

“The racial hatred that drove a self-identified white supremacist to murder 10 Black people — mothers and fathers and friends and grandparents, is a horrendous act of violence. This action is further evidence of the evil of racism that exists today. In times of such heartbreak and, indeed, fear, I call on the devout to turn to prayer and find solace in God’s comforting peace. Let us pray for the African American community in Buffalo, New York, and beyond to find healing and relief, and safety. Let us also pray for an end to such hatred that manifests so abundantly in racism.”
