Father Norbert Rackensperger, O.F.M. Conv., dies

A funeral Mass for Conventual Franciscan Father Norbert Rackensperger was offered Jan. 21 in California. Father Rackensperger died Jan. 14. He was 88.
A native of Baltimore, Father Rackensperger served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945. He entered the novitiate for the Conventual Franciscans in Lake Forest, Ill., in 1949 and was ordained a priest in 1954 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Baltimore.
Father Rackensperger earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from what is now Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore.
Following his ordination, Father Rackensperger ministered in California, Illinois, Nebraska and Wisconsin. He retired from active ministry in 2008.
