INSTITUTE FOR EVANGELIZATION
Office of
FAMILY, YOUTH, AND
YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY

We know that parents have the strongest influence on the spiritual lives of their children and that parishes have a special role in supporting families as they form the next generation in faith.
But what happens when we have multiple generations who know a lot about Jesus, but don’t know Him personally? How do we reach parents and kids when they don’t even know that a personal, life-changing relationship with Jesus is what the Catholic church is offering? This quick catch-up session will introduce you to the method of Jesus, so that you can start to reimagine how your parish might connect, captivate, catechize, and co-mission the families that you serve.
Conversion and Compliance are two totally different goals in ministry, and our methods lead us to one or the other. If we want to help families truly become and grow as disciples, we need to be very intentional about the steps we take to help invite them there.
As we offer parents and kids more opportunities for community building and meaningful service, intentionally “wasting time” with the families we serve can lead to powerful opportunities for conversion.
Jesus captivates our hearts through beautiful experiences of prayer and liturgy. We can facilitate these moments of encounter and response for the families we serve by creating environments for prayer that inspire wonder and awe.
Jesus often helped his followers understand and experience his love and mercy by using objects and situations that were familiar to them. With a little practice telling parables, we can inform and inspire families in a formal catechesis setting, too.
The Archdiocese of Baltimore’s Institute for Evangelization is a new model for engagement with parishes seeking to realize their evangelizing mission more fully.
The Institute is composed of four offices that collaborate closely to ensure that support is never “one-size fits all” but can adapt to the changing needs of each parish community.
