Press/Media Policies

Cathedral of Mary Our Queen

The Cathedral, in conjunction with the Office of Communications of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, offers the following procedures to be used in dealing with members of the media on campus to cover special events or to obtain footage or interviews related to events within the Catholic Church. These procedures are designed to both allow access while maintaining a reverent, prayerful environment during sacred liturgies.

The point of contact for the Media will follow this order:

  • Chief Administrative Officer (if the media are present on a weekday).
  • Head Usher at a particular Mass (who will inform the clergy in the Main Sacristy).
  • If neither of these is available, then the members of the press should contact the Rector or one of the Associate Pastors.

It is the policy of the Archdiocese of Baltimore that camera crews will not be allowed to film or to be present during the celebration of Mass, unless they are specifically permitted to do so by the Director of Communications or by the Rector of the Cathedral in advance of the event.

Media vehicles are not permitted to park or set up on the main driveway in front of the Cathedral. All vehicles must be parked on one of the main parking lots on the south side of the campus. Media vehicles may not park along Charles Street, on the sidewalk adjacent to Charles Street, or on the Main Plaza of the Cathedral.

Reporters may not conduct interviews on the front steps of the Cathedral. At the discretion of the Rector, they may set up on the opposite side of the driveway and conduct interviews on the plaza.

In the event that the media are given permission to film during Mass (e.g., at Christmas, Easter, or some other special service), they are to be invited to the side aisles near the northeast or southeast entrances. At the instruction of the Rector or the Archdiocesan Office of Communications, direct audio feed can be provided.

If necessary, Mr. Sean Caine, Director of Communications of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, is available to offer assistance and act as a liaison with the media. He can be reached at: office (410) 547-5378; cell phone (443) 857-4372.
