Catholics celebrate the feast of St. Francis of Assisi

By Catholic Review Staff

Across the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Catholics honor St. Francis of Assisi, a 12th-century saint who is known as the patron saint of animals and the environment. His feast day is Oct. 4, and many parishes and schools, such as Mother Seton School in Emmitsburg, will hold pet blessings today to honor the saint.

Our Lady of Grace Church in Parkton held its annual pet blessing Sept. 30. To view a slideshow of the pastor, Father Sam Young, blessing animals, navigate the arrows below.

Still looking for a pet blessing to attend? St. Casimir Church in Canton will hold its annual pet blessing Oct. 6 at noon in front of the church on O’Donnell Street.
