Catholic Review seeks two staff writers, photographer

Due to recent promotions, newsroom reorganization and expansion of staff, Catholic Review Media in the Archdiocese of Baltimore is hiring newsroom personnel.

The staff writer provides dynamic content for all Catholic Review Media channels, including but not limited to The Catholic Review and CatholicReview.org. The staff writer will develop, report and write news and feature articles as well as in-depth center spreads for the channels in a variety of formats.

Among the qualifications needed: bachelor’s degree with two year’s experience in newspaper journalism; relevant experience in magazine or digital media may be substituted. Some knowledge of the Catholic Church is necessary. A full job description is available.

The staff photographer’s responsibilities include:

– Use still photography and video to document breaking and major church events, feature subjects, human interest, parish life, sports, etc.

– Generate ideas and contribute to editorial meetings.

– Write accurate caption information that conforms to Associated Press and Catholic News Service style.

– Post photos, including those published in print and unpublished, in electronic formats, such as the newspaper’s photo sale site, slide shows, a staff photographer blog and other formats.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree; three years’ experience as a news photographer; knowledge of the Catholic Church and its liturgy preferred. Personal transportation required. Weekend work and some evening work are expected.
