Almost all events submitted – if they are sponsored by a Catholic parish, school or other organization in the Archdiocese of Baltimore – will be featured in the online calendar.
A human monitor will approve submissions for posting.
Events submitted by the first of the month prior to the month of the event may be considered for the print edition of Catholic Review magazine (e.g., by Jan. 1 for publication in the February magazine). So that all entities in the archdiocese have a fair opportunity to be listed in the limited space in the print publication, entities will be limited to no more than two in each calendar month print edition. If more than two have been submitted, Catholic Review Media staff will decide which items to publish, at their discretion.

ARCHBISHOP TO MARK 800TH ANNIVESARY OF DEATH OF ST. FRANCIS AT FRANCISCAN SHRINE
Shrine of St. Anthony will host Transitus Prayer Service on Oct. 3
ELLICOTT CITY—Archbishop William Lori of Baltimore will preach as part of a Franciscan prayer
service at the Shrine of St. Anthony, marking the exact date that St. Francis of Assisi passed to
eternal life 800 years ago.
St. Francis of Assisi, founder of the Franciscan Order, died on the night of Oct. 3, 1226. Every year,
around sunset on that day, Franciscan Friars around the world pray the Transitus, a special prayer
service commemorating their founder’s death. Transitus at the Shrine of St. Anthony this year will
be Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. and hosted in the Shrine Chapel. Archbishop Lori will be the featured speaker
for the evening, which will also include prayer and sung worship.
“We’re honored to have the Archbishop join us for this special occasion and on such a significant
anniversary,” said Friar Michael Heine, OFM Conv., Minister Provincial of Our Lady of the Angels
Province. “We welcome all to join us for this special moment of remembrance, honoring Francis
who still inspires and challenges us to live the Gospel more fully each day.”
As his brothers gathered around him on the night of his death, St. Francis recited Psalm 142. It
was during the closing verse that he died. Transitus solemnly recalls this moment every year. All
are welcome to bear witness and participate in this special service at the Shrine on the exact
800th Anniversary of St. Francis’s death. Fellowship will follow the service in the Shrine Dining
Hall.
The Shrine of St. Anthony, a ministry of Our Lady of the Angels Province, is an official pilgrimage
site during this Year of St. Francis, so proclaimed by Pope Leo XIV in January. This year’s Jubilee is
in recognition St. Francis’s powerful witness to living the Gospel that is still relevant today.
Pilgrims are invited to attend Adoration, Confession, and Mass as they seek plenary indulgence.
The Shrine building is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and offers a quiet space for reflection and
prayer. Mass is offered daily at 12 p.m
