About the YOE Logo:

The Eucharist is a mystery – not in the sense of a puzzle to be solved – but in the sense that it is a multi-faceted reality that must be considered from a variety of angles and whose depths cannot be exhausted.  In the logo, four of these facets of Christ’s presence in the Mass are highlighted in each of the four quadrants (clockwise):

  1. In the Eucharist (Jesus’ Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity under the signs of bread and wine)
  2. In the Congregation (the gathered assembly of the people of God)
  3. In the Word (proclamation of Holy Scripture)
  4. In the Celebrant (the Priest)

These four facets come from Church teaching about the Eucharistic Liturgy.  The Dogmatic Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy from Vatican II that states: “Christ is present in the sacrifice of the Mass, not only in the person of His minister … but especially in the Eucharistic species … He is present in His word, since it is He Himself who speaks when the holy scriptures are read in the Church.  He is present, lastly, when the Church prays and sings, for He promised: ‘Where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them’ (Mt 18:20).” (Sacrosanctum Concilium, §7)

The divided circle itself resembles a Eucharistic host imprinted with a cross.  So, the four facets, always connected to each other, each provide a unique window into the whole mystery of the Eucharist.  A single quadrant may be highlighted at any given time, but each facet is never separated from the others.  All point together to a single mystery: the presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, the preeminent way Christ continues to be present to His Church until the end of the age.
